Island Peak Climbing

Island Peak Climbing

If there is one thing that is recalled over and over again about Nepal, it has to be the mountains and the Island peak climbing is one of the journeys you will not forget. In Sagarmatha (Everest) region of Nepal, the Island Peak climb is one that will take you through glaciers, breath-taking scenery, Himalayan villages of unique cultures and traditions.

The Imja Tse ascending begins in Lukla and will take you the lakes of Gokyo which are a number of lakes on the foothills of the Cho Oyu (8,201m) and through Everest base camp which is the front door to the highest mountain on Earth. As beautiful and grand the Everest region may be it is still in its pristine raw nature and much caution should be taken while trekking this region.

At 6,189m, the Island peak is a popular peak to climb in Nepal. This climb and trek has the advantage of having a high camp at 5,600m which reduces the summit day. From the peak we will able to enjoy fantastic views of Lhotse Shar (8,383m), Makalu (8,481m), Baruntse (7,129m) and Ama Dablam (6,812m). The island peak is a strenuous and rigorous trek which is recommended for fit people. During our climb we will also be making stops at different places to acclimatize to the altitude, acclimatization is a must for everyone so as to avoid major health risks. Island Peak climbing bound to get your adrenaline pumping and will give you a sense of great achievement once we reach the summit, making the journey worth everything.

With professional trekking guides and the best mountaineering gears, we have been operating Island Peak Climbing since long time ago. Himalayan Summit Treks and Expedition had had the pleasure of guiding mountain enthusiasts from all over the world and will surely make your time a one to remember too. Our company representative will greet you at the international airport. From there you will be escorted to your hotel for Check-in. Overnight at the hotel.

Today after breakfast we will leave to explore Kathmandu. An ancient city Kathmandu has much to see from Buddhist stupas to temples of great Hindu significance. Many UNESCO world heritage sites are found in Kathmandu valley. Overnight at the hotel.

Today after breakfast we will take a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Known as one of the world’s most dangerous airport, Lukla serves as the gateway to Everest. Upon reaching Lukla, we will make our way to Phakding along stone-paved stairs and streets. Overnight at tented camp.

After breakfast, we will make our way to Namche Bazar. We will move through cool Pine forests and meet the Dudh Koshi River soon, the milky white froth of the water has given it its name which literally translates to Milk Koshi. We will be accompanied by Mt. Thamserku as we make our way towards Sagarmatha National Park. We will make our way through many suspension bridges, a scene very common to Nepal, the famous Hillary Bridge falls in this trek. It is an uphill walk to the village of Namche Bazar. Upon reaching overnight at tented camp.

Trekking in High altitudes it is mandatory to acclimatize to the altitude. We will do that today in Namche, we will explore the village where we will see the lifestyles of the Sherpas and their rich culture and traditions. The Sherpas revere the mountains to be sacred and hold a special spiritual connection to them. With Mount Everest towering above us we can also visit the local museum which has many showcases of the region. A hike to the village of Khumjung is also an alternate plan for the day. Overnight at Tented Camp.

After breakfast overlooking the mighty peaks, we will make our way to Dole. The walk gets tougher today as we get to a higher altitude. We will pass through paths lined with stone towards Mong La and make our way to Dole. Upon reaching Dole overnight at Tented Camp.

After breakfast, we will make our way to Machhermo, which falls on the way to Gokyo Valley. The walk to Machhermo is relatively easy as compared to the previous day. We will be reaching Machhermo during lunch time and stay there overnight.

Today after breakfast we will make our way to Gokyo valley. This will take us through a ridge and also upwards towards Cho Oyu 8,153m. We will then enter a valley and descend towards the riverbank and the glacier. After some time we will pass the first of many lakes called the Longpongo at 4,690m. When we reach the second lake the turquoise blue shade of water combined with sun rays brings a twinkling like an effect to the water, the third lake is linked to the second through a stream. Here the village of Gokyo sits perfectly, Overnight at Lodge.

We will spend the day to acclimatize and explore the Gokyo valley. We can also hike up the Gokyo Ri in the morning and take in the colors that the rising sun brings. From here we will able to see the four mighty mountains of Nepal. The Cho Oyu, the Everest, the Lhotse and the Makalu. Overnight in Gokyo Valley.

If we did not go to Gokyo Ri yesterday, we will make it up here today. The demanding steep climb

is all worth it for the view that we will get to witness from the top. The small village of Gokyo next

to the lakes under the mountains provides a very impressive view. From there we will make our

way to Thaknak with the panoramic view of the mountains that include Thamserku, Makalu, Cholatse, Lhotse, Nuptse etc.

Today we will go through a long hour of walk. We will cross the Cho-la Pass which is through a vertical, steep and slippery with ice, much caution is required during this time. We will then walk beside a frozen lake and reach the top of the pass from where the pyramid-shaped Ama Dablam is visible in all its glory. Famous as one of the most beautiful peaks, Ama Dablam is a sight to take in. Before entering the village of Lobuche we will pass through Dzongla and grass pastures with the Lobuche peak keeping us company. After a long day of walking, we will stay overnight at Lobuche.

Today after breakfast, we will make our way to the Everest Base Camp through the Gorak Shep Lake. We will be passing the memorial grounds of the Indian Army Mountaineers and through rocky patches and beautiful streams. When we arrive at the Everest Base camp we will be able to see the multiple colorful tents set up by the Mountaineers which break the regularity of white and grey of the surroundings. Overnight at Everest Base Camp.

We will hike up to Kala Patthar for the sunrise of a lifetime. The rays of the early morning sun hitting the Everest is a new feeling altogether. From Kalapatthar we will make our way back to Lobuche through familiar landscapes.

Today we will make our way to Chhukung via Kongma La. The path is of similar landscape with glaciers, snow, and rocky terrain. We will enjoy the majestic views of the mountains as we reach Chhukung and stay overnight at a Tented Camp.

Today after breakfast, we will make our way to the Island Peak base camp. Here we have the opportunity to meet and greet the many people who too have the same destination as ours. We will take some well-deserved rest today and head for high camp tomorrow. Overnight at a Tented Camp.

Today we will make our way to the High Camp from the base camp. This high camp makes it easy for the Mountaineers to save time and reach the summit early. Many prefer to stay at this camp rather than begin their climb to the summit from the base camp as it significantly decreases the summit time. We will prepare for our climb tomorrow and sleep as soon as possible today. Overnight at tented camp.

We will begin our climb early in the morning usually around 1-2 AM. In the beginning, we will be met by rock steps which are the passageway to the ridge which brings in full view of the summit. Crevasses are a major concern here so we will be roped up by the guides. From there we will make our way to the summit ridge with the help and guidance of the Sherpas and the team. On reaching the summit we will be able to enjoy the breathtaking the view of the world below as feel as though we have reached the edge of it itself. After taking some pictures and spending some time we will make our way back to Chhukung itself today. Overnight at tented camp.

Because not all treks are complete on the day of the plan due to bad weather or the varying number of reasons, we keep a contingency day as a backup plan. If we were unable to reach the summit yesterday, we will try again today.

After breakfast we walk down to Namche Bazar, following the same rocky paths and enjoying the wonderful scenes as they come. Overnight at Tented Camp.

Today is the last day of walking on this trip. We will take a similar path to Lukla but this time filled with the memories of the past trek. Upon reaching Lukla, Overnight at tented camp.

Today, after breakfast we will take a flight back to Kathmandu valley. Overnight at the hotel.

Today is a free day in the Kathmandu valley and the day can be spent resting them sore legs or shopping for souvenirs. Overnight at a hotel.

Our representatives will drop you at the International airport for your final departure from Kathmandu.

This is my SECOND trip to Nepal with Himalayan Summit. As always, the trip was superbly organized. Sobha responded to all my queries and made sure of everything I wanted on the trip. The ascent to Island Peak was also very well organized; the base camp camping accommodation is very comfortable, well equipped. My ascent was successful largely due to Pemba Sherpa mountain guide, who has extensive experience in climbing, including Everest. Thanks to Sobha and the whole Himalayan Summit team, for the excellent organization of our trip. I hope to visit Nepal once more with Himalayan Summit treks.

Can’t speak highly enough of this company! We decided very last minute to do this, booking merely weeks in advance and Sobha was very efficient with replying to my questions! On the Island Peak Climbing my guide Pemba was always smiling and happy, and he made sure me and my pals were well fed! He really helped me make to the summit. When I next come to Nepal I will definitely request to have him as a climbing guide again.

We took the most adventurous climb of Island Peak with Himalayan Summit and our Guide Pemba. The climb was great. The views from the top were amazing. Everything was perfectly organized. Our Oxygen level was measured by our guide daily, this made us feel safe. Our climbing Guide was very helpful, reliable and friendly. We made it up to island peak, we had a great time and we would highly recommend everyone to join the adventure. Himalayan Summit and our guide Pemba fully met our expectations and we are happy for the choice we made. Lodges and food were also better than expected. The climb is exhausting but worth every step!
