Annapurna Region

Home to the famed Honey Hunters, brave Gurkhas, and the Annapurna massif (8,565m) – among many others – the Annapurna region offers some of the best Himalayan treks.

The Annapurna Conservation Area Protection program (ACAP) is rich in biodiversity and is a treasure house for 1,226 species of flowering plants, 105 mammals, 518 birds, 40 reptiles and 23 amphibians. Also, ACAP brings sustainable social and economic development to the local people.

The biological diversity of the Annapurna region, equally challenged by its cultural diversity. Gurung and Magar are the dominant groups in the south, whereas Thakali, Manange, and Loba are dominant in the north.

The natural and cultural features of ACAP have made it the most popular trekking destination in the country, attracting a majority of the country’s total trekkers. Popular hikes of this area include the Annapurna Circuit that tours the Annapurna Range, the Kaligandaki River Valley Trek that takes you to the deepest valley in the world, and the Sanctuary Trek – Annapurna to the Annapurna base camp. Besides this, there are short hiking trails too.
